1. Data We Collect

All personal data you enter in lumi is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. This includes:

• Your name, age, bedtime, and wake time (provided during onboarding)
• Emergency unlock settings (number of unlocks per night)
• Wind-down content you create - brain dumps, gratitude notes
• Wake challenge preferences and streak data

Certain information is collected automatically to improve the app's functionality and performance:

• Crash logs (via Firebase Crashlytics)
• App usage and feature analytics (via PostHog)
• Device information (such as device model, OS version, and language settings)

2. Permissions We Request

To deliver its core features, lumi requests the following device permissions during onboarding or when a feature is first used:

• Camera - used for wake challenges such as barcode scan, QR code scan, pushups, jumping jacks, squats, and photo-proof that you are awake. Images are processed on-device and are not uploaded or stored beyond the session. An on-device ML model processes sensor data to verify exercise completion; this data is not transmitted externally.
• Physical Activity / Motion - used for wake challenges that detect movement (walking steps, shaking the phone).
• Notifications - used to deliver bedtime reminders and wake alarms.
• Display Over Other Apps (Android) / Screen Time API (iOS) - used to show the lock screen over other apps during your scheduled bedtime.
• Usage Access (Android) - used to detect when a blocked app is opened so the lock screen can be displayed.

You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's settings, though doing so may limit certain features.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the anonymised analytics data to:

• Monitor app performance and stability
• Diagnose bugs or crashes
• Understand general user behaviour (e.g., feature usage, screen views)
• Improve the app experience and subscription offerings

All analytics data is anonymised and is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party tools to operate the app:

• Apple App Store & Google Play Store - for distribution and purchases
• RevenueCat - to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases
• Firebase Crashlytics - for crash reporting and diagnostics
• PostHog (Cloud) - for product analytics and feature usage
• Google ML Kit - for on-device machine learning used in wake challenges (pose detection, face detection). All processing happens locally on your device; no data is sent to Google

These providers may collect anonymised data according to their own privacy practices. No personally identifiable information is intentionally transmitted to these services.

5. On-Device Processing

Camera frames and motion-sensor data used for wake challenges are processed entirely on your device using on-device machine learning models provided by Google ML Kit. No images, video, or raw sensor data are uploaded to our servers or any third party. Google ML Kit runs locally on your device and does not send your data to Google's servers. Processing results are used only to determine whether a challenge has been completed and are discarded immediately afterward.

6. Data Storage & Security

All personal data - including your name, sleep schedule, journal entries (brain dumps and gratitude notes), and preferences - is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate user accounts or cloud storage for personal data.

If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data will be permanently deleted.

7. Your Privacy Controls

Since no user accounts are created and personal data remains on your device, you can delete all your data at any time by uninstalling the app. If you wish to request the deletion of anonymised analytics data associated with your device, contact us at:

We will process your request and delete any identifiable analytics data stored via PostHog and Firebase Crashlytics.

8. Children's Privacy

This app is rated 4+ on the App Store and “Everyone” on Google Play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware of unintentional data collection from a child, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new “Effective Date” at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes go into effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
